On July 23, Fifty-Three NCC member organizations signed onto a letter to the House and Senate Armed Services Committees urging them to include the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps Service Recognition amendment in the final National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). By including this strongly supported bipartisan amendment in the final NDAA bill, nurses who served as members of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II will be recognized and will receive honorable discharges, medal privileges, and burial benefits for cemeteries administered under the Department of Veterans Affairs.
On July 17, the NCC released a statement thanking the House Energy and Commerce Committee for advancing H.R. 728, the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2019 to the House Floor. This is a true testament to the NCC's unified voice and our continued advocacy efforts.
On July 11, Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act (H.R. 728) advanced out of the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee by a unanimous voice vote. During the markup, the Subcommittee adopted an amendment offered by Representative Doris Matsui (D-CA) which increases Title VIII authorization levels by $10 million and expands choice for nurses who participate in the NURSE Corps Loan Repayment Program.
On July 8, Forty-eight NCC members signed onto a letter to the House Rules Committee urging them to make the U.S. Nurse Cadet Corps Service Recognition Amendment in order. This amendment was offered by Representative Cheri Bustos (D-IL) and would recognize nurses who served as members of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II and provide them with honorable discharges, medal privileges, and burial benefits for cemeteries administered under the Department of Veterans Affairs. We are pleased to announce that this letter was successful and the amendment was included in the House passed NDAA!
