The OADN Board of Directors has officially endorsed the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC). In a letter of support and endorsement on July 11th to Dr. David Benton, CEO of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) the OADN Board stated that they “appreciate the advantages of the NLC in contemporary healthcare and education. In addition, the Board supports the work of NCSBN to ensure patient safety and support states’ rights in this NLC initiative.” The OADN Board of Directors represents various states, some with access to a multistate compact and some without, but all Board members understand the value and benefit of the NLC model. The OADN Board believes the NLC is another opportunity for OADN member advocacy.
CEO Donna Meyer stated, “In a time of an evolving healthcare system, a nursing shortage in some regions of the country, and an increased need related to flexibility for nurses to practice, the NLC is a solution that we believe will assist in quality and safe care delivery. As our country continues to face challenging times with natural disasters and other unfortunate incidents, the ability for nurses to cross state lines during these events could prove to be truly life-saving for many.” The OADN Board will continue to follow NCSBN as this NLC initiative progresses.
